How to use SEMrush to obtain strategic SEO data?

SEMrush is one of the best paid SEO (Search Engine Optimization) analysis tools available on the market today. Its main advantages are competition analysis, analysis of your website and keyword research.

When using SEMrush, you and your team have a wealth of data, both from your website and from your competition, to work with and make informed decisions. This brings more security to Digital Marketing strategies and avoids errors.

Home Panel

Upon entering the SEMrush website and logging into your account, you will come across the Home Panel. It gives you an overview of your project, with information about your website audit, SEO ideas, search engine position and domain analysis.

At the top is a search bar. It is possible to search by keywords or domains and receive a series of information. On the left side is the sidebar, which displays all the analysis alternatives that can be performed (this bar appears on all pages of the site).

Domain Analysis

Domain analysis is a tool that allows you to analyze any domain, whether yours or your competition. In the result, you will find information about paid and organic searches, backlinks used, main competitors for that domain and keywords used.

When searching, it is important to only type the domain, without HTTPS:// or WWW. If you want to search for our domain, for example, the correct option would be to just put “4revops.com” in the search box.

It is also important to select the search country in which you want to see the domain information. In our case, the ideal would be to mark Brazil.

Domain x Domain

In addition to the alternative of analyzing each domain individually, it is also possible to make a comparison between several domains simultaneously. This will generate a keyword assessment of the domains listed and show how many are in common.

The tool also shows the ranking position of the domains for each keyword displayed, as well as the difficulty of competing for that keyword and its search volume.

If you want something more specific, the filter in the Domain x Domain area allows you to select specific words or separate the results by ranking position.


Organic and paid traffic evaluation

Another important feature of SEMrush is traffic analysis. It evaluates both the domain's organic hits and paid hits. In both cases, the information obtained is the same:

  • main keywords (main keywords that when searched on Google lead to your Educational Institution's website);
  • competitive positioning map (graph that shows your Education Institution's main organic and paid competitors based on keywords and traffic);
  • distribution by organic position (graph that shows the position and how many keywords your content can rank in each position in Google results);
  • main competitors (a list of the main competitors for the same keywords used in your Educational Institution).

When analyzing traffic (whether paid or organic), the report is presented with four divisions showing the information we just talked about. Each of these can be expanded to display all results.

To do this, simply click on the “View full report” option. There is also the alternative of clicking on the sidebar on each subtopic.

Organic and Paid Keywords Report

Among the expansion alternatives, the keyword report is especially interesting for you who want to work on your SEO strategy.

It shows which posts on your website or blog are ranking for each keyword presented. With this, we can understand variations in the use of keywords and how they affect the website’s results.

Sometimes a simple subtitle change or increasing the main keyword variation can move your content from one position to another. And it is in this evaluation that SEMrush will be very useful.

Organic and paid keyword analysis

SEMrush’s “Keyword Analysis” feature gives you complete insight into the terms that are being searched. Some of the information you get immediately is:

  • difficulty in ranking the keyword;
  • cost in AdWords;
  • organic search;
  • paid search;
  • Cost per Click (CPC) by country;
  • SERP (Google results page) results by position;
  • related keywords;
  • Phrase match keywords.

With so much data, it is possible to create a complete strategy. Your team can, for example, focus on less competitive and cheaper keywords to strengthen the domain and, when they reach a certain number of hits, the focus becomes on those keywords that are difficult to rank for.

Or, depending on the budget available, create a strategy focused on a keyword that is difficult to rank, since reaching first place tends to generate great returns.

It all depends on how your team prefers to work and how willing they are to test ideas. However, the first step is the organic and paid keyword analysis that SEMrush offers.

How to use SEMrush

SEO Content Template

SEMrush has very interesting functionality. It is capable of generating a content template based on the best Google results. All you need to do is choose the keyword, set the country and language, and a template will be generated.
